Muted Wavescape presents a moving landscape of silent, visible soundwaves held within a vintage radio. The piece explores multi-dimensional compositions with various layers of reflection, which offer an intriguing optical puzzle.
The time dimension is also included through the rhythmic sense of the animated composition, together with the evocation of travelling back to a time when the voice of the radio was at the centre of the living room. The almost spectral presence of a skull subtly highlights the passage of the ephemeral, as a phantasmagoric apparition from the past.
On one hand, the piece is a tribute to the obsolete technology it uses; on the other, it draws attention to the contrast between old and new media.
